Nacho Recipes – I Love Them

As anyone who knows me, they know I LOVE NACHOS! The time I’ve spent in the southwest United States when I was doing my 5k desert run trainings, got me very familiar with tex mex food. The real way to do nachos right is to you use a Salamander. NOT A SALAMANDER the animal, but a Salamander Broiler.

This is the best way to melt all the goodies into the nacho pile the best possible way.

So as I do on my weekends I tend to search Pinterest for some of the best recipes. Here they are.

I’m pretty jacked up to be trying out these loaded nachos. They are vegetarian and look amazing with the green chilis. However, I will be adding Cilantro to my nachos. I know there are two camps regarding Cilantro. Some people really hate it, and some love it. I love it.

Cajun Jambalaya

Cajun jambalaya is one of the famous Creoles favorite meals. You do not have to visit one of the famous restaurants in the elegant Garden District, when you can prepare your own jambalaya right in the comfort of your home. Get your large kettle and wooden spoon and let’s get down to cooking. You will need to prepare a jambalaya mix, before you start the cooking process.

Jambalaya Mix Ingredients

3 Tablespoons Minced Onion

1Tablespoon Parsley, Beef Bouillon

½ Teaspoon Garlic Powder, Black Pepper, Thyme Leaves

¼ Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper

1 Cup Long Grain Rice


1 Can Diced Tomatoes

1 Can Tomato Sauce

¾ Pound Peeled Shrimp

2 ½ Cups of Water

½ Pound Sliced Smoked Sausage

Pour in all of the ingredients, except shrimp, and then allow mixture to come to a boil. Let simmer for twenty minutes, then add the shrimp and leave to simmer an additional seven minutes. Allow the jambalaya to cool, before serving. Your family will not believe that you created this awesome dish all by yourself.

New Orleans Gumbo

Creoles love their gumbo and so will you. This simple recipe will definitely leave your friends and family begging for more.


1 Pound Boneless Chicken, Sliced Smoked Kielbasa, Peeled Shrimp

¼ Cup Chopped Green Pepper, Minced Parsley, Cold Water

½ Teaspoon Dried Thyme, Cayenne Pepper, Liquid Smoke

3 Tablespoons All-Purpose Flour

3 Bay Leaves

1 Teaspoon Pepper

4 Garlic Cloves, Celery Ribs

6 Cups Chicken Broth

2 Cups Rice

2 Chopped Onions

1 Can Diced Potatoes

Heat a large saucepan and pour 4 cups of chicken broth rice, celery, onion, and garlic. Mix thoroughly then cover and let simmer for 15 minutes. While this is simmering start the second portion of the recipe.

In a large kettle combine the remaining chicken broth and all other ingredients except shrimp, chicken, flour, and water, as these will be used later. Allow this concoction to come to a boil then allow it to simmer for an extra 15 minutes. Combine flour and water until the ingredients are smooth, and then stir in shrimp and chicken. Allow to cook uncovered for about six minutes.

In another pot cook the rice thoroughly, until tender. Serve the gumbo over top the rice and you will have a delicious meal of New Orleans Gumbo.

I would recommend that everyone head out to Mardi Gras, if you ever get the chance, because it is a sight to see. The United States is known for some of the world’s most unique, delicious cuisine. Although the northern states are capable of delivering some tasty foods, the southern states are arguably the best for satisfying your taste buds. If you really want some good down home cooking, you’ll cross the Mason-Dixon line and head for Louisiana or Mississippi. Although southerners tend to be a few years behind in some aspects, their cuisine has actually helped to shape the other cuisine of the country. These foods might not be the most health, but they’ll sure make your mouth water. Below, you will discover some of the most popular recipes from good old Dixie.

If you’ve ever been to Oklahoma, I truly hope you had the opportunity to fill your belly with some tasty biscuits and gravy. Don’t worry, if you haven’t. You can always use my recipe to get your fill of biscuits covered in hot gravy. I usually start, by making some good Southern biscuits. First, I collect my supplies, which will be listed below.

Three Cups Milk

Pre-Made Buttermilk Biscuit Mix

Three Tablespoons Flour

Two Tablespoons Butter

Six Pork Sausage Patties (Optional)

Once I’ve mixed up my biscuits and have them in the oven, I’ll flip on the stove and fry the sausage. Of course, this is optional, but gravy with sausage is much better and truly southern. After this has finished, I’ll toss out the sausage and reuse the pan, without washing. Instead, I’ll throw approximately three tablespoons of flour in and start to whisk. From time to time, I am forced to add butter. After my gravy begins to turn brown, I’ll pour in a small amount of milk. It is crucial to stay focus on the stove during this entire period, as the gravy will burn very quickly. Once you’re done, you can pull out the biscuits, throw on the gravy and enjoy!

Ham the Country Way

The south sure ain’t the south, without some good old country ham. This is why I like to slow fry my ham. This specific recipe will provide you with the best taste, which perfectly reflects the southern cuisine. When I start, I normally cut the pieces of ham to approximately ¼ inch thick. Then, I’ll kick on the stove and allow the skillet to preheat. Next, it is time to throw in the ham. Always be sure to cover the skillet, with a lid, as this will help to smoke it. I normally cook it for ten minutes, before it is finished and ready to eat!


If you truly want to taste a bit of southern cuisine, you’ll try some good old-fashioned Kentucky Burgoo, which can be made with opossum, raccoon, pork or chicken. Ok, it is best to add a combination of vegetables to the mixture. It is best with onions, carrots, lima beans and celery. Chop up your meet really good and mix everything together in a cooker. Afterwards, I’ll throw in some Worcestershire sauce and let it cook, while my mouth begins to water.

Throughout America, the population is quickly growing in size. While there are many reasons for this growth, the truth is the food is just too delicious to pass up and much of the blame lies with the state of California. The cuisine of California offers a variety of different foods, including sandwiches, burgers, barbecue and even pizza. While many of these dishes are overwhelmingly tasteful, they’re also healthy, since they are often made with organic ingredients. Many of the foods are linked to the state’s other famous trait, the enormous car culture. Although some of these foods are famous, because of their associated chefs, some can be made perfectly in your very own home. Below, you will find my favorite recipes for some of California’s best delicacies.

California Pizza

When I was a youngster, I would always stuff myself on mom’s homemade pizza. Regardless of how much I ate, I never felt overly bloated, which is a common problem, with frozen and delivery pizzas. Homemade California pizzas are delicious and cheap, as they can be made for $4 to $6. For this amount of cash, I can make one extra large pizza. You’re going to need to make the dough first, which requires water, yeast, honey, olive oil, salt and all-purpose flour.

Of course, it is the toppings, which gives the pizza its California style. For that, I use Mozzarella cheese, tomato, onion, mushrooms, black olives and deli ham. Don’t forget to cook up a delicious sauce. Typically, I do this, with marinara, garlic clove and oregano. Follow my recipe and you’ll receive a healthy pizza, which can be enjoyed for a few days.

The Famous Chinese Chicken Salad

If there is one thing true about the residents of The Golden State it is that they love to eat healthy. I’ve always tried to keep myself in shape and don’t necessarily want to lose it eating fatty foods, no matter how much I love them. This is why I enjoy eating a famous California dish, the Chinese chicken salad, which is healthy, but delicious, not to mention easy enough to prepare. Overall the ingredients are fairly minimal. I like to use chicken, chicken noodles, sesame oil, ginger and lettuce. When ordered in a Californian restaurant, a number of small wonton skins will be added. Although I definitely avoid this, you may wish to add them to yours.

California RollCalifornia Sushi Rolls

California is known for having a very diverse culture, which obviously shows, when it comes to their wise range of cuisine. If you’ve got the time and are craving some sushi, you may want to try out some of the state’s most tasty sushi rolls. When it comes down to it, this recipe takes me approximately two hours to cook, with a forty-five minutes preparation time. I generally make the rice first, by using short grain rice, with a small amount of sugar and rice vinegar. On the other hand, you’ll need some picked ginger, a cucumber, sesame seeds, nori sheets, an avocado, and a small amount of lemon juice. Once the preparations are complete, I normally cook the sushi rolls for twenty minutes, before I enjoy my creation.

DIY Bonefish Grill Bang Bang Shrimp Recipe

One of my favorite restaurants Bonefish Grill makes a shrimp appetizer that is very hard to compete with. I can’t go to Bonefish without ordering the bang bang shrimp. Last week I saw shrimp on sale and I immediately knew I had to try to recreate this dish. Super easy and super delicious. At Bonefish it’s just an appetizer but I could eat these as a whole meal. They aren’t very spicy either, I like to refer to it as “flavorful”. Next time you see a deal on shrimps, try out this recipe.




1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup Thai Sweet Chili Sauce
3 drops Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce (or to taste)
1 pound shelled and deveined shrimp
Dry cornstarch
oil for frying
chopped scallions


Mix mayonnaise with Thai Sweet Chili Sauce. Add hot sauce to taste.

Dredge the shrimp in cornstarch. Deep fat fry the shrimp until lightly brown. Drain on paper towel, put in a bowl and coat with the sauce.

Serve in a lettuce lined bowl, top with chopped scallions.

Buffalo Chicken Casserole

I was in Kroger the other day and saw them preparing this dish and it was delicious. It’s called Buffalo Chicken Casserole and combines some of my favorite things. Buffalo chicken and loaded potatoes. The best thing about the Publix Aprons meals is that they are super easy and quick to prepare. Only 15 minute prep time and then 45 minutes to cook. My roommates loved this one and so did I.





1 bag baby gold potatoes (24–28 oz), halved
1/2 cup Buffalo wing sauce, divided
6 slices precooked bacon, coarsely chopped
1 3/4 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 1/2 cups shredded Mexican-blend cheese
1/2 cup french-fried onions
1/2 cup presliced green onions
1/2 cup ranch dressing


  1. Preheat oven to 450°F. Halve potatoes; place in microwave-safe bowl and cover. Microwave potatoes on HIGH 8 minutes.
  2. Drain potatoes, then toss with 1/4 cup wing sauce; transfer mixture to 13- x 9-inch baking dish. Bake 20–25 minutes or until potatoes are fork tender, stirring once halfway through bake time. Meanwhile, chop bacon. Cut chicken into 1/2-inch cubes (wash hands).
  3. Reduce heat to 400°F. Combine chicken with remaining 1/4 cup wing sauce, then stir into potatoes.
  4. Combine remaining ingredients (including bacon); top potatoes with mixture. Bake 15–18 more minutes or until center of casserole is 165°F. Let stand 5 minutes to cool. Serve. (Makes 6 servings.)
